What is this project all about?

Refugee Action York (RAY) was founded in 2002 to raise awareness of the contribution refugees and asylum seekers make to our society and to challenge myths and misconceptions about refugees and asylum seekers. Drawing on advice and support from experienced teachers, you will identify a series of topics around engagement, aspiration and cohesion that you will develop activity plans to deliver. These should be fun, interesting, and suitable to be delivered by volunteer teachers. Working with children from migrant and asylum families, you should be looking to engage them with important issues such as: the benefits of being bilingual; celebrating the festivals and culture of their Turkish heritage; raising and pursuing career aspiration.

The aim of this project is to design and produce activities and materials that engage children from migrant and asylum families with York culture and also their own heritage. Your plans will be used by volunteer teachers to engage current and future users of RAY.
